Setup, display screens, firmware updates, and troubleshooting for xBloopx Pro, Pro Max, and Bus.

Which xBloopx do you have?

All three models share the same compact display and setup flow, with a few feature differences depending on your model.

xBloopx Pro

A 1.5" IPS display (240×240) showing your live glucose reading, trend arrow, and delta, plus a freshness indicator, clock, date, and local weather. Connects over Wi-Fi and is powered by USB-C.

xBloopx Pro Max

Everything the Pro offers, plus a touchscreen, a built-in speaker for spoken glucose alerts and an on-device voice assistant, a rechargeable battery with a charge indicator, and a microSD music player.

xBloopx Bus

The same compact 1.5" IPS display, repurposed to show live arrival times for up to three of your chosen bus stops.

Initial Setup — Wi-Fi & Nightscout

Setup takes about five minutes and follows the same first few steps on every xBloopx model.

  1. Power on your xBloopx. It broadcasts a Wi-Fi network called xBloopx-Setup.
  2. From your phone or laptop, connect to the xBloopx-Setup network. A setup page should open automatically — if not, browse to 192.168.4.1.
  3. Choose your home Wi-Fi network from the list, enter its password, and save.
  4. Your xBloopx reboots and connects to your network. Its screen shows its new IP address and /config.
  5. On a device connected to the same network, open that address in a browser — or try xbloopx.local/config for Pro and Pro Max, or xbloopx-bus.local/config for Bus.
  6. Pro and Pro Max: enter your Nightscout host (hostname only, e.g. yoursite.nightscoutpro.com — no https://), then set your glucose thresholds and time zone. Bus: search for and select your bus stop(s) and service number(s).
  7. Pro Max only (optional): turn on Audio Alerts / Voice Readout and set the volume. To use the on-device voice assistant, paste in a free Gemini API key.
  8. Save your settings — your xBloopx fetches data immediately and starts displaying it.

Need to switch networks later? Open the config page and choose Reset Wi-Fi — your xBloopx returns to xBloopx-Setup mode so you can repeat this process.

Display Screens Explained

Here's what you'll see on each model's display once it's set up.

xBloopx Pro

  • Large glucose number, color-coded — white for normal, yellow for low, orange for high, red for critical
  • Trend arrow showing whether glucose is rising, falling, or steady
  • Delta showing the change since the last reading
  • "Last: X min" freshness indicator
  • Clock, date, and optional local weather and temperature

xBloopx Pro Max

  • Everything the Pro screen shows
  • Battery icon with charge percentage
  • Tap the screen to switch between the glucose and music screens
  • Long-press for a spoken glucose readout or to talk to the voice assistant
  • Music player screen with track name, play/pause/skip, and volume

xBloopx Bus

  • Up to three of your configured bus stops
  • Each stop shows its next 1st, 2nd, and 3rd arrival times
  • Seat-availability status for each upcoming bus, where provided

OTA Firmware Updates

Keep your xBloopx up to date directly from its own web page — no cables required.

Open your xBloopx's config page (see Setup above) and click Check for Updates. If a new version is available, click to install it — your xBloopx downloads the update, installs it, and reboots automatically. Don't unplug it while an update is in progress.

If you ever need to install a firmware file manually, open /update on your xBloopx's address and upload the file directly.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

It's broadcasting xBloopx-Setup again

Your xBloopx lost its Wi-Fi settings, or they were reset. Repeat the setup steps above to reconnect it.

The screen shows "No data" or a red "Last: X min"

Double-check your Nightscout host is entered correctly (hostname only, no https://) and that your xBloopx has a working Wi-Fi and internet connection.

I can't find my xBloopx's address

Check the IP address shown on the screen after setup, or try xbloopx.local/config (xbloopx-bus.local/config for Bus) from a device on the same network.

How do I change my alert thresholds?

Open the config page and look for the BG Thresholds section.

Pro Max: there's no sound, or the voice assistant isn't responding

Make sure Audio Alerts is enabled and the volume is turned up on the config page.

Pro Max: music won't play

Insert a microSD card loaded with MP3 files.

Is my data private?

Your xBloopx talks directly to your own Nightscout site or bus API — your glucose or transit data never passes through xbloopx.com.
